We just got back from Mississippi and Louisiana where we started documenting a rather interesting story. In Laurel, MS we met up with Mark Landis a man who has confessed to passing off literally hundreds of counterfeit paintings to museums over the last 30 years. Many of these pieces have not yet been identified as fake. Though recently exposed as a forger, Landis cannot be prosecuted as all the pieces were donated as gifts. We are exploring the circumstances behind Mark’s unique brand of philanthropy.
As this is our first documentary of this scope we asked Sophie Harris to help us produce it. Her previous projects include 2011 Sundance Grand Jury Award winner “How To Die In Oregon” and 2009 Oscar-Nominated “The Final Inch.”
